A WALK ALONG KESSINGLAND BEACH

Today's weather: A very dull and damp day, but not to cold.

Kessingland is a village of around 4000 inhabitants that lies about 4 miles south of Lowestoft, it once consisted of two parts the "Beach" and the "Street" until a housing estate filled the gap thus uniting the village into one.

OLD COTTAGE

I wonder if this is the smallest and oldest cottage in the village.

SAILORS HOME PUBLIC HOUSE

The "Sailors Home" public house.

FISHERMANS BOATS

Nowadays only a few fishermen still fish from the beach.

CARAVANS ON CLIFFTOP

Caravans from the nearby holiday village perched on the cliff top, at this time of year all are empty awaiting next summers holidaymakers.

RIVER HUNDRED PUMPING STATION

At this point the River Hundred reaches the sea, but it has to be pumped over the shingle bank before it can reach the sea, I assume this is to do with the flood defences.

RIVER HUNDRED SLUICE

The sluice, which allows the river to flow into the sea

WATERFALL

And finally the river reaches the sea via probably the only waterfall in Suffolk.

WASHED UP TREE

This washed up tree still has its roots, so probably came from a little further down the coast where the coastal erosion is very bad, with not only trees but also whole houses falling over the cliffs.

PATHWAY ACROSS THE BEACH

This pathway across the shingle, made from old conveyor belts sure makes walking back to the promanade much easier.

PROMANADE

And finally back to the village where its time to find somewhere to get a nice hot drink or even visit the Sailors Home!
