PENROSE ESTATE Nr PORTHLEVEN, CORNWALL

Today's weather: A cold and crisp, but mainly sunny day.

A lovely Boxing Day walk with my dog Milo to try and get rid of some of the excess's of Christmas Day, through the National Trust's Penrose Estate situated near Porthleven in Cornwall.

Porthleven

My walk today starts in the lovely village of Porthleven.

 Milo on Porthleven beach

The first part of the walk is along the beach which Milo thinks is the best part because he's able to be off his lead.

Porthleven beach

We're not the only one's to pass this way today!

Cliff top footpath

After a while we have to climb up and follow the cliff path, this is quite a task, because due to cliff erosion the steps don't lead all the way down to the beach.

Entrance to Penrose Estate

The entrance gateway to the Penrose Estate, what was once one of the main gatehouses is now a holiday home.

Loe Pool

Loe Pool, the largest natural lake in Cornwall is separated from the sea by a sand spit known as Loe Bar built up over hundreds of years thus turning what was once a tidal estuary into Loe Pool.

Boathouse on Loe Pool

An estate cottage and boathouse overlooking Loe Pool.

Birdwatchers

Judging by the hammering sounds coming from the woods these chaps are trying to spot a Woodpecker.

Pathway through the estate

Out of the woods and into the parkland.

Stable block

This elegant group of buildings are the 18th century stable block to Penrose House

Bridge and Bathouse

This lovely little bridge crosses a small river that runs through the estate; to the left is a recently restored bathhouse.

Penrose Estate parkland

Quite a few people are walking through this lovely parkland today.

Woodland path

And finally another short walk through woods, then onto the road for the mile or so walk back into Porthleven.
