SOUTHWOLD and WALBERSWICK

Today's weather: Bitterly cold, but bright at first then rain.

A pleasant walk this week around the harbour at Southwold and Walberswick, starting in bright sunshine and ending in rain.

Bridge over River Blyth

The Bailey bridge that crosses the River Blyth, the piers of the bridge once supported the bridge for the 3 foot gauge railway that operated between Southwold and Halesworth from 1879-1929.

River Blyth

Looking up the river Blyth towards Bulcamp marshes with the old mill in the distance. The stile appears to head straight for the river.

Unusual house

Standing next to the Harbour Inn is Blackshore cottage probably the most unusually shaped building in Southwold.

Boats

Boats of every shape and size use the harbour nowadays.

Wooden jetties

Precarious looking jetties stick out into the river.

Walberswick

Looking over the marshes towards the village of Walberswick.

Rainbow over Southwold

Rainbow over Southwold.

Lifeboat shed

The modern Lifeboat shed seen against ever darkening skies.

Adventure boat Voyager

The Coastal Voyager leaving the harbour at speed. The Voyager gives high speed trips out to sea and more leisurely trips up the river to Blythburgh.

Fishermen's sheds

Old fishermen’s sheds on the Walberswick side of the river.

Ferry jetty

The Southwold ferry jetty with the lighthouse in the background, there’s no ferry today so I have to walk back the way I came.
