WICKHAM MARKET

Today's weather: A lovely bright sunny day but still quite cold.

Wickham market is a largish village originally on the main A12 trunk road to London but now bypassed, it still retains many of its shops and has a lovely church packed tightly into its centre. The village has a railway station but funnily enough this is situated a couple of miles away in the village of Campsea Ashe although still retaining the name of Wickham market station.

Deban Mill

The old watermill on the outskirts of the village.

The village sign standing in the market place.

White Hart inn

This red brick building, now shops and offices was formerly The White Hart public house and is supposedly haunted by a ghost said to be one Betty Price who was executed for being a witch.

The entrance way to the church.

Church Doorway

The octagonal tower of All Saints church, which at present is undergoing extensive repairs. Until quite recently the tower has been shrouded in scaffold.

All Saints church

Old Windmill

A little way out of the village stands the old Smock Mill, like other mills in the county it has been turned into residential use. I think this one looks more like a Summerhouse.

War memorial and cottages

The War memorial on the corner of Chapel Lane.

Quaint cottages

Quaint ivy clad and pink cottages in Little Lane.
